Kassiopi: Ruins of a fortress

Originally there used to stand a castle which was also where a fortress was built in the 13th century. This medieval edifice was supposed to protect the island against the attacks of foreign troops. Yet during the Venetian era, it was destroyed, as people were afraid the fortress could be seized by ennemies. Today you can only see the ruins of this historical guardian in the place.
