Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

This very impressive religious building, the hugest and probably also the most beautiful on the whole island, rises proudly in the village of Menetes in the south tip of the island near the capital. It was built in the 19th century and it will literally take your breath away: it was partly built in a rock, and so, its snow-white facade is contrasting with the hostile mass of the stone. The charming tower with a clock and a red roof is only icing on the cake of this religious gem of Karpathos.
