Monastery of John the Baptist (Agios Ioannis Prodromos)

The female monastery of John the Baptist, lying within view of the Monastery of St. Barbara (Agia Varvara) is still inhabited by a few nuns who take care of it. Its construction is very uneven with its combination of rather dark fortification with a red roof and snow-white religious buildings typical for Greek architecture. This popular sacred place can be found only a few kilometres north of the island capital.
