Liapades Resort

The romantic resort of Liapades stretches in a bay of the same name on the west coast of Corfu, in the northern part of the Ropa valley. The whole region is the agricultural centre of the island, and so, you can see there many vineyards, fields and farms, and also the everyday life of the locals. All that is forming a contrast with the beaches on the coast popular among the tourists.

One of the beast beaches on Corfu is the beach in this very resort. It is quite small but in its surroundings, you can explore many other beaches and bays, accessible only by sea. So, there is nothing easier than to rent a boat or a paddling boat and set off for the trip. You will be rewarded by untouched nature and the privacy of an abandoned beach; you will simply feel a bit like Robinson Crusoe. The beach in Liapades is mainly a pebble one and you will find there umbrellas and deckchairs. The water is crystal clear, and so, it is tempting especially for the divers; although with a simple snorkel you can also feast your eyes on the sea animals.

On the main beach you can also rent a motor boat.

The local nature is particularly pleasant to the eye, with the indented coast lined by rocks and natural caves. It is then really worth setting off to explore the surroundings where you will be surprised by many picturesque places.

One of the Liapades beaches, the Rovinia beach, has a gentle entry into the water and small pebbles, and so, it is frequented mainly by families with children. Most of its access path can be walked with a pram, with only the last part on the descent to the beach not being passable. In the afternoon, the local cliff forms a shade. The beach is not equipped at all.

What to do in Liapades?

The original village of Liapades lives in its traditional way. There are a few tavernas, and a square with a church; it is simply a place perfect for afternoon relaxation and watching the local bustle. The local church is a historical building from the 17th century that was restored to its original appearance.

On Corfu island, you should definitely not miss the capital, located about 20 km away from the resort. You can get there by bus or by a rented car. Only about 3 km from Liapades, you will find a place called Paleokastritsa which is one of the three places wrapped in a legend about Odysseus and his petrified ship: according to Homer, Poseidon let the ship change into stone in the place where the two local ports can be accessed on the embankment. Yet this legend seems to be corresponding not only with Paleokastritsa, but also the peninsula of Kanoni with its famous Mouse Island or the petrified ship. It is also assumed that in the ancient times, the legendary palace of the king Alkion used to stand in Paleokastritsa.

The whole area is intertwined with many paths and routes, perfect for hiking. If you like to make long walks, set off to the hills and discover your own ´secret´ little towns with amazing views on the sea and sunsets. Or you can explore the remote secluded parts of the coast and virgin beaches. In Liapades surroundings, there are also plenty of traditional little villages untouched by tourism.
