Poros, a very lively port and at the same time a recreational resort, can be found about 40 km from the capital of Argostoli, in the south-east of the island. From the original fishing village, the town has grown up into the today´s tourist destination.
The town built along the coast, mostly after the devastating earthquake in the 1950s, with houses scattered on the surroundings green hills descending gently up to the beaches and the clean sea, can offer the necessary peace and relaxation to its visitors. That is why Poros is a place sought-after mainly by families with children but it is not exceptional to meet there couples of all age groups; although the resort is not really too much adapted for teenagers. In the night, people usually go there for a walk on the beach and in the town at the sunset, rather than enjoying hilarious entertainment in an alcoholic haze. There are spots offering this kind of fun but this cannot be compared to other renowned resorts.
The main beach in Poros, standing out for its length and with its surface covered with sand and pebbles, is located in the very resort; but there are plenty of other bays in the surroundings where you can enjoy your privacy. The clean water is tempting for bathing and water pleasures.
